I just sprinkle and brush into the carpet using a particular type of vacuum cleaner that is designed specifically for this type of cleaning. However, you do generally need to remove existing deep marks using vanish oxi foam carpet cleaner beforehand and let it dry first. A tral treat for the carpet if cleaned once every 3 - 6 months
